Writing reviews on gomy.co.uk

With your helpful, witty and sometimes funny reviews, its people like you that make gomy a great place to be. It’s also a great place for your fellow locals to get real information on the businesses and services that surround them.

Your local knowledge is certainly appreciated at gomy – your neighbours need you, and we need real people just like you!

What would make a great review?

The best reviews you will read at gomy are from personal experiences and helpful suggestions, sometimes even a little inside information is usually great advice. Your fellow gomy’ers love to find out about the unique qualities that a business has to offer. And remember, take off the edge here! It’s good to stick a little harmless humour in your review.

We ask you to kindly…

  • Submit only one review per listing.
  • Write your reviews with consideration to the business you are reviewing and the users that are reading them. For example – write your reviews in regular text format and not use all capital letters or txt spk.
  • Please refrain from using any profanity, hateful or harmful words or any language that is threatening or refers to criminal activity, pornography, or anything considered to be of bad taste.
  • Not to include any e-mail addresses, HTML or any other coding in your reviews as this will be flagged and removed before publication.

Where should I start?

Any business or service that you have dealt with personally is a great place to start spreading the word.

The list is endless: Restaurants, Dentists, Pubs, Clubs, Theme Parks, Travel Agents, Fish Mongers, Knitting Shops, TV Repairmen etc… The choice is yours.

I am a business owner, can I write my own review?

No sorry! This just wouldn’t be fair to your new or potential customers as they come here for genuine thoughts and experiences from fellow locals.

What we do highly recommend is reviewing your own suppliers, they will be thankful of your verbal boost as much as you would (reciprocal reviews from your suppliers to “you” are just as welcome as anybody else’s).

Can I take free gifts or discounts for writing reviews?

You should never take any form of payment to write a review on gomy – Things just get messy.
gomy is about real and genuine reviews, if you are offered a free drink because you wrote a review on your own back, that is fine “well done” but this shouldn’t be used as a tool to get what you want. We love our local experts, but this needs to be fair and honest.

What if my experience was bad, can I write a negative review?

Sure. gomy reviews are for your good & bad experiences.

Please consider this very carefully: your reviews need to be genuine. Although your opinions and experiences are very welcome here, false information and personal attacks can be liable to legal issues with the business you are talking about if you get this wrong (Just be careful).

Does gomy remove reviews?

Not often. But yes, we have no choice to remove some reviews occasionally.

Some examples of why we may remove a review:

  • Reviewing a business with someone else’s rumours: We don’t want bad reviews because you heard somebody talk about a rogue plumber or an undercooked meal – we need your own personal experiences.
  • Hatred and personal attacks: If your father-in-law blows 20k in the local Casino, an educated guess would be its not really the Casinos fault.
  • Relevance: Reviewing a business shouldn’t be the place to complain about Mr Pizza who parks his car in your car space.
  • Racism or prejudice: gomy is not the wild west (there are rules) we are all friends here.
  • Plagiarism: Please your own words and experiences, this shouldn’t be copied from other publications or websites.
  • Blank reviews: A review without words is like Naan bread without Donner Meat, Don’t hold back, it’s your voice so let everyone hear it!

When you submit your review, you are giving gomy.co.uk full permission to use your review as often as needed, you also acknowledge the review may sometimes be used on third party websites.
