Monty's serves up good, solid chips (and all manner of related foods) at good prices right in the main market square. Take out or sit and eat at one of the half-dozen tables. Not being so hungry, I shared a portion of chips and was more than pleased. Saw another chip shop down the road, but for me Monty's is the one.

Sister pub of the Marble Arch Brewery in town, the homely and informal Marble Beerhouse delivers a fine selection of organic, vegan beers alongside interesting guest ales. A friendly crowd of all ages. One evening last year they had the football on the tv --- strictly limited to teletext. Oh, and some quality books on the shelves too.

My favourite food shop in Chorlton has a wonderful variety of well-priced fresh fruit and veg sitting outside, and a really decent selection of regular and not-so-regular store items. Lots of competition with Tesco, Unicorn, Barbakan bakery etc close by, but always delivers the goods. Consistently great, in my opinion.
