gomy.co.uk is an online community mixing local people and local businesses together.

Our users are the local experts who review, talk and use the businesses that are great and not so great in their areas, they have the facility to add any local event to our weekend guides and make GoMy the place to find the buzz on "everything local".

Our business owners have the ability to log in and change / update any of their business details anytime they like. We have created a simple to use and very understandable control panel for every business listing (Almost 2 million and growing daily).

Is GoMy free?

Absolutely yes!! As a user everything is 100% free. As a business owner your listing is 100% free unless you take advantage of our extra features (visit compare listings for more details).

GoMy is an exciting community filled with great local knowledge and comprehensive business details.

Whether you are looking for a new restaurant or a local dentist GoMy lists pretty much everything.

All reviews are written by real people sharing their own local knowledge of the places they know and use. Everyone is a local expert with GoMy, and the helpful insights are a fantastic (sometimes very witty) read.

How do I know my GoMy account is active?

Once you have completed your user details, your account is active and you will receive an email confirming this.

After you've registered on GoMy, you are free to start writing reviews, adding events, uploading images, adding friends and all the other exciting features that come with your user account.

What if I forget my password?

If you forget your password you can click on the "forgot your password?" link on the login page. Follow the simple instruction to re-set your password.

I forgot the email address I signed up with?

Please be sure to try all of your active email addresses first. If you are still having problems, just send us an email to accounts@gomy.co.uk
(Please use "forgotten email - 1st Name 2nd Name" in your subject line) also include your location in the body copy.

Privacy Information

What does GoMy do with my personal information?

We take your privacy very seriously and we hate spam just as much as you do. Please have a look over our Privacy Policy so you can see exactly how we keep your personal information private.

If you receive any spam messages or solicitations from another GoMy member, or if you receive a message that is harassing or abusive violating our Terms of Use, please forward the message to legal@gomy.co.uk and we'll take care of any situation for you.

  • We do not display your email anywhere on the site for public view

Is my personal information secure?

We say this a lot across gomy.co.uk "Your privacy is very important to us". That's because it really is our highest priority and something we take very seriously. GoMy cannot work without your trust in our security and privacy of your information. For a detailed description of how we respect your personal data, please read through our Privacy Policy.

Closing My Account

How do I close my GoMy account?

If you no long wish to be part of the GoMy community, you can close your account by emailing us at: accounts@gomy.co.uk
(Please use "Close account - 1st Name 2nd Name" in your subject line) and include your email address and location in the body copy.

Friend / Business Invites

How do I invite friends?

Just click on the "Invite a friend" link from the tab above (this is located at the top of every page). Or click on the "Invite a friend" link from the left side of your user profile area. Simply enter a couple of details and click send (Your friends email address will not be shared or sold to anybody GoMy values privacy as its highest priority).

My friend owns a business can I invite them?

Absolutely! From the "Invite a friend" link above: choose "Invite a friends business" (this is located at the top of every page), or click on the "Invite a business" link from the left side of your user profile area. Simply enter a couple of details and click send (Your friends email address will not be shared or sold to anybody GoMy values privacy as its highest priority).

  • Your friends business will automatically receive a 15% discount should they decide to upgrade with any special ad features (no super sales technique here - they just have the option because of your recommendation)

Why are some of my friends not receiving e-mail invitations? Back to top

Internet Service and Email providers (like Google mail, yahoo mail) filter e-mail's to keep spam out of your Inbox. As a result, they occasionally filter out e-mails that contain commercial links (for instance: links back to a website). If your friend doesn't receive your email, please ask them to check there junk or spam folders.

User Profile

How can I view information about my member account?

Simply click on the log in link at the top right of any page to login to your user section. If you don't have a user account, you can set up a free user profile by clicking here.

How do I change my basic profile information?

You can change your profile information by clicking here. Or you can click the "Profile Settings" link on the left column in your user login area.

How do I change my email address?

You can change your email address in your "Profile Settings" following the instructions above.

Who can see my name?

Your name will be displayed around the site on the reviews and events you add. It will only display your first name and the first letter of your 2nd name e.g. "Alex M". GoMy is about real people writing genuine reviews.

Can I GoMy under multiple accounts?

No! We only allow one account per user. We delete multiple accounts and multiple reviews by the same user as this just wouldn't be fair.

What are Bookmarks?

Bookmarks are available for business and events listings. Similar to how bookmarks work in your web browser, they allow you to save the details into your personal "bookmarks" section. Add a personal note to each bookmark, and return anytime you like for a quick reminder.
Bookmarks are great for remembering future events (Booking a table for that all important anniversary dinner, MOT for the car, remembering a gig at your favourite arena, the choice is yours)

How do I add a friend?

You can search for friends at the top of every page. Under the 'Find Someone' tab, scroll down and click on 'Find New Members'. Once you've searched and located any friends you can click the "Add as a friend" link. Your friend will then receive an email to confirm this.

How do I remove a friend?

To remove a friend from your list, simply click the "My Friends" link on the left hand side of your user profile pages and then click "Remove friend" link to remove them.

Why should I add a profile picture?

Adding a friendly photo can make your reviews feel more "human" Putting a face to a name, so to speak. Your profile picture gives your reviews more weight and doesn't make you look anonymous or corporate - GoMy is about real people just like you.

What is Send to Mobile? Back to top

Send to mobile is a FREE* service available on all business listings and local events. Simply click "Send to a Mobile" link on any listing, enter your mobile number and the business details will be sent to your mobile phone via an SMS text message.

* Although GoMy picks up the tab for this service, your mobile provider may charge you the standard rate of a text message (please check with your provider if you are unsure).

Adding Photos

What kind of photos should I attach to business listings?

Photos should capture the business and its services. They should express the business to the general public and be relevant. A picture of your favourite meal at a local restaurant is perfect. On very rare occasions, we remove photo's that don't follow these guidelines:

  • Photos of the interior and exterior of a business are great, but close-ups or blurred pictures of you and your friends doing 12 shots of Tequila are not relevant for a business profile (these kind of photos are better added to your user profile).

Is there a maximum number of photos I can upload for a business?

There is a maximum of 3 free photos for each free business listing. Gold and silver listings have an unlimited number of photo uploads. Be aware that if a business owner has claimed their business listing, they will approve any photo's you upload before they become active.

Are there limits to file sizes and file types for photo uploads?

Please use jpeg format for photos and they should be no bigger than 2mb each.

Can a business remove my photos?

If a business owner has claimed their business profile they will verify any photo's you may upload. If the listing has not been claimed your photos will appear instantly.

Can I copy images off the web and add them to GoMy?

You can only use images from the web if they don't infringe any copyright laws. Please be very careful with this. Any images we find breaking copyright legalities will be removed from the site and the user will be warned.

Business Listings

I didn't add my business to GoMy, why is it listed?

GoMy has almost 2 million businesses listed and displayed for free. This information has come from years of data compiling.

How do I update a business listing?

You can click on the "Edit listing details" link for any business profile and choose one option:

Are you:

  • The business owner or employee
  • A customer

If you are the business owner, just follow the simple instructions to claiming your business profile by creating a login to your business section - We have set up an easy to use and very understandable control panel for every business listing (Almost 2 million and growing daily).

A business owner can edit their business details anytime they like 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year we never close. This is FREE to do and only takes a few minutes. GoMy always verifies that you are the business owner of any business you claim. If you are a customer any details you change will be verified by the GoMy team before any changes are made to the listing.

Am I allowed to download listings to use as mailing lists or lead lists?

No, the data contained within the gomy.co.uk directory is the sole copyright of gomy.co.uk Ltd. We keep all our data for informational purposes. Please don't approach us for business data lists as we do not "sell out" the privacy of our businesses.

How do I remove my business from GoMy? Back to top

If you would like your business removing from GoMy, simply email us: accounts@gomy.co.uk (Please use "Remove business - Business name" in your subject line) include the phone number and location in the email and the GoMy team will contact you to verify the listing is to be removed.

Please consider a few things before removing your business:

  • Your basic listing is 100% free and you will never receive an invoice unless you upgrade
  • You have the editorial freedom to change the details if they are incorrect (free)
  • You are more than welcome to change an "old business" into a new one you may have (free)

Business Reviews

Who can write a review on GoMy?

Any registered user of gomy.co.uk can write a review about there own personal experience with any listed business.
Please keep in mind that you need to be at least 16 years old to create a user account. If you haven't already joined us, it takes less than a minute to register and it's totally free.

How do I write a review?

Writing a review couldn't be easier. Just click "Write a new review" on any search results page or any business profile page. From there you will be able to give the business a star rating:

Select the star rating that corresponds with your personal experience for the business you are reviewing.

  • 5 stars = Exceptional
  • 4 stars = Very Good
  • 3 stars = Good
  • 2 stars = Fair
  • 1 star = I would not recommend

Then write your review in the box provided and click Submit. Also remember you can come back and edit / remove your review at any time (if needed).

How soon will my review be posted on the site?

GoMy user reviews are posted on the site almost instantly, and the summary rating information on the results page is updated at the same time. Reviews are monitored and if they fail to meet our Review Guidelines they will be removed without warning.

Is there a length limit for the reviews?

There is no set limit to how long a review can be. Just try and keep your review relevant and to the point, avoiding rambling on and going off the point. For ideas on how to write a great review please refer to our Review Guidelines.

Is there an age limit on GoMy?

There is no age limit for browsing and searching on GoMy, but we do have an age limit of 16 and above for submitting reviews and setting up a user account. This is consistent with the gomy.co.uk Privacy Policy.

Can I include my e-mail address or Web site?

For your own security and to ensure that reviews are focused on the business and services being written about, e-mail addresses and HTML (or any other code) is not permitted.

What guidelines should I follow when writing reviews?

When writing a review, please make sure it complies with the gomy.co.uk Review Guidelines. These were designed to make insure your reviews stay honest, constructive and sometimes witty.

Does GoMy read every review before it is posted?

GoMy does not read every review before they are posted. However, we do spend a lot of time monitoring reviews for human errors and content that does not comply with our Review Guidelines.

What can I do if I see an offensive review or something that doesn't fit with the Review Guidelines?

If you come across any review that doesn't fit in with our review guidelines, simply click on the "Flag review" link and let us know the details. We appreciate your help, after all its people like you that make GoMy a great place to be.

Can a business owner contact me after I review their business?

A business owner can only contact you if have added them to your friends list. When receiving a friend request, GoMy recommends that you view a persons profile before accepting them as a friend.

Is my personal information published on the Web site with my review? Back to top

When you join the GoMy community, you give your e-mail address, first name, last name, location and a password for the next time you log in.

When you add an event or submit a review we only display your first name and the 1st letter of your 2nd name (e.g. Alex M)

If you close your account your information is completely removed from our system.
