I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend last year because it was in the hi-life scheme but it was possibly the least enjoyable meal we have ever had..!
The food was like bad school dinners at best. The salmon was tasteless, the chicken dinner was like something an unskilled grandma would make & the presentation of the apple crumble with (cheap!) custard was atrocious. What made this experience even more amusing was that a couple of around 60 sitting near us were ready to order but were told (for no apparent reason) that they would have to leave as the waiters were "having an emergency"!!? To top it all off, the owneress didn't have a clue what the hi-life was for & started to deny that it was buy one main course, get one free. An experience not to be repeated!

Atmosphere was quaint and pleasant. Food was good and fairly generous. Service needs quite a lot to be desired.
We go to Morecombe several times a year and I'd been looking forward to trying The Grove several months.
Normally we would go for fish and chips on the pier, but it was Easter so we thought we'd finally give it a go.
We noticed as we came in that half the tables were taken, Customers who already had food, had ample portions on their plates and nods of approval as they ate. We also noticed three or four waitresses, a waiter and a woman dressed as if she'd just come from a function or church who seemed to be the owner or owner's wife taking orders and bringing out food and drinks.
We took our table and soon a waitress appeared to take our order. We weren't ready yet, but ordered a coffee each. The waitress left her pad on the table and went for the drinks. While she was gone, the waiter and the Owneress(?) came to take our order but upon seeing her pad on our table, stated "Oh, I see someone else is helping you" and left. 15 minutes later our waitress came back with the coffees. She took our order for The Grove Large Mix Meat Dinner. Fifteen minutes to get two cups of coffee??? The waitress left with our food order.
Meanwhile the people at the table next to us had ordered just seconds before us with the waiter. We saw their dinners come, hoping ours would come soon. We saw a table of eight (who'd ordered after us) get their food. A table of four got their food too. We're still wondering where ours is.
The people next to us finished their meals, ordered puddings and finished them, ordered their aftermeal coffees, finished those and still no one had come to us, no food coming our way. We had finished our coffee. I drank mine so slowly that by the time I took the last sips it was ICE COLD. The table of 8 had left and their table cleared. No one had come to check us yet.
After almost an hour, the waiter who'd help the table next to us came up to us and said he'd ask about our food. This was over 55 minutes AFTER we'd sat down! The people at the next table felt so sorry for us that they offered us their complimentary mints just before they left. Even they were wondering where our food was and were angry that we hadnt got it yet.
The waiter came back and mumbled the chef's apologies and said our order would be out soon, we're thinking ok, plates will arrive in less than 5 minutes or so. He came back a couple times later to say it wont be much longer. He never asked us if we wanted another coffee.
Our waitress never came back to us. At an hour and half, our patience was worn. We got up, got our coats on and went to pay for our coffee. We told them we wanted to cancel our food order and thats when the Owneress(?) told us it was coming off the grill now, she said the chef had to clear the grill to cook all the meat on our plates. No one told us this ahead of time. If they had we would have ordered something else, but they didnt . We were both starving. If they'd said it would be five more minutes we definately would've left, but since they said it was coming out now. We sat back down.
The waiter brought one our dinners and then the waitress finally shows up with the other dinner. She said with a smile "I'd thought you'd already eaten!" It was the first time we'd seen her near us since we ordered our food.
I admit the food was good, the meat was flavourful and juicy, the salad looked fresh, the chips and the onion rings were fabulous, but we WONT be back.
