I was taught by Anita for 2 years and I can honestly say she gave me more confidence and patience than I thought possible. Nothing was a problem to Anita or the staff no matter what your request or question was. I ended up buying a horse and keeping it there. My horse was DIY but worked in the school 2 days per week. I cant disagree more with the negative feedback.I put my horse was up the field around 2pm and received a phonecall from Anita to say she had brought him down to the farm as he had blood coming out his fetlock.I was assured it was a very minor cut which Anita was going to clean and tend but I headed straight over. The staff were great advising me on the best way to keep the small wound clean, On another occasion I witnesses the staff bring down a horse from the field who had a badly swollen leg and immediately examine and tend the hiorser while the owner was contacted. I have never witnessed any ill feeling or sad staff I always found them to be very encouraging and eager to help. As for smoking I DONT BLAME THEM WHEN IN MY OPINION getting a review like that after the 1st class honest service they provide they deserve to smoke.

In reply to your earlier review
I have Been a livery at Roundknowe farm for many years and have NEVER came down to find my horse has not been fed or watered horses get mucked out at 9 pm and are skipped out again at 4pm everyday . The staff at Roundknowe are very helpful and are really health and safety conscious the horses are all treated and looked after well after all the staffs main concern are the horses and safety of riders ,liveries also help with the horses and every ones aim is to keep the horses healthy and fit . All of the horses at Roundknowe farm have been ridden and tried out before we even think of putting customers on them every horse is groomed everyday and also the yard is BHS approved
And all horses are treated as our own you will find that they all have water and haylage at the appropriate times. I would recommend this yard to anyone lessons or livery !

First of all I would like to state that I am a current livery at roundknowe farm and find the last review to be completely unfair
I have been a livery at the yard for several yepars and as I work during the day I need the staff to feed my horse breakfast and lunch I have never arrived to find my horse has not been feed or has no water I have also at times had to use the working livery and would imagine that if you are not going to arrive on the yard till early evening and your horse is mucked out in the morning by staff that you are going to find ur horses bed to be wet or dirty all horses beds are skipt out at 4pm also the owner Anita and her staff have an excellent knowledge of horses and are always on hand willing to help I would like to point out that this yard is a highly condemned BHS yard so that speaks for itself as for the fact that there is a lot of jealousy it sounds as if that comes from the person that wrote the review after all only someone in that position would want to harm someone's business by leaving that type of review

In reply to earlier review I would like to clear up more than a few errors. Firstly when a horse is in working livery they are looked after by us every day not just the days we use them in lessons, and if u were in fact a livery at the farm how would u not know this? The horses under our care have a routine as follows they get breakfast at 8am lunch at 12pm afternoon feed at 4pm and night feeds at 8pm. They are mucked out in the morning somewhere between half past 8 in the morning and 11 in the morning depending on where they are stabled on yard and skipped out and beds reset at 4pm along with fresh water during both these muck outs. Given that this is the winter routine I am describing, which from reading your review you seem to have summer and winter confused just a little, all our horses are turned out in outdoor or indoor school in the mornings to give them a chance to stretch their legs and socialise. During the summer months when you seem to think our horses are left in field with no one checking them all our school horses, working livery and livery horses are checked everyday with most of them being brought in at some point everyday as well to be groomed and ridden. I have been a staff member for more than just a few years and do not and have not smoked ever in this time, I care for each of the horses at the farm as I would my own and having been around horses for 25+ years I think the level of care myself and the others staff members provide is excellent. The farm itself is a member of BHS and the ABRS and is highly commended for 2012, we have the certificate hanging in our farm shop. As for the lessons we have max 7 riders in a going large group at intermediate and advanced level and our beginner walk trot groups only 5 riders. All of our instructors who are all BHS qualified encourage feedback and often ask groups what they would like to work on from week to week especially our advanced groups so that they feel they are getting everything they need from their riding experience. Unfortunately sometimes the instructor does have to dictate the content of the lesson for obvious safety reasons and not ever lesson can be about the jumping side of things. If for any customer who does want to concentrate on a certain discipline you can book private lessons for this very reason. I hope for any future readers of first review this clears up a number of inaccuracies.

Roundknowe's lessons are okay and i enjoyed them at first but after returning each week and learning/going over the same stuff, they began to get boring. Sometimes, there would be too many horses in a lesson and it would feel cramped considering the size of the indoor and outdoor school. In the full two years that I had been taking lessons, and been in a reasonably advanced class, I never got taught how to jump, when other groups that had been riding for six months had been taught this. My friend then kept her horse here so ill pass you on to her..,.
I kept my horse here. I felt that it wasnt the best livery yard though as when you would arrive there would be an unwelcoming atmosphere. I was on working livery which consists of the riding school using your horse on specific days as a lesson horse. On these days, the riding school were meant to muck your horse out, give them new water and arrange haynets. I would arrive down to the yard at half five/six oclock some nights and the stable didnt look as if it had been mucked out at all and when i took my pitchfork into the stable to investigate the bedding, it was completely damp with urine and poos scattered throughout the bed. the water buckets would only be half full with shavings and dirt mixed in too and sometimes the haynets would be lying outside the stable, empty! Not to mention the fact that my pitchfork and wheelbarrow was being taken from my stable every so often and i couldnt find them. I then switched to DIY livery as i would be able to do things the way i wanted to do them, but there was also a negative side to this too! Everyday, you would spend the vast majority of your day at the yard, completing all of the tasks and especially if you wanted to ride your horse as at the weekend, the only times you could ride was 1 oclock til two oclock and on weekdays, five oclock til six oclock. Because of this, the schools were always cramped as everyone was riding at this time, and of course, if there were a lot of lessons, it would cut into your livery time and you would sometimes have half an hour riding time. With DIY livery, the only thing the farm was meant to do for you, was put in a 'breakfast time' haynet but i would arrive at twelve at the weekend and would be unsure as to wether my horse had been fed. The one thing that i was absolutely appauled at, was the fact that during the winter, the horse was in its stable 24/7 and the only times your horse could get out, was the livery hour/half hour to ride. Everyone's pony/horse got cabin fever. and then in the summer the field that they're turned out in is a ten minute walk from the farm and sometimes the horses are left in the field for 3/4 days at a time with none of the workers going up to check on them ! The last thing I would like to point out, is that the staff are very unhelpful and look depressed all of the time and stand outside smoking constantly under the sign that says 'no smoking' ! There is an awful lot of jealousy and bitching that goes on down at the yard too. I would not recommend it ...
