Well I don’t know where to really start off with this place, as I really don’t understand the why most people are raving on about this place. (Else I’ve got high expectations.) The first look at the place from the outside seems ok though nothing special. As it’s a listed building so I’m guessing the design can’t really be changed much. Though however at they’ve had the fire in the restaurant a few years back…. They had the perfect opportunity to change the place for the better though it seems to they’ve decided to opt for the boring old traditional look of a typical look on the inside.
On entering the resturant I really do wonder why do we always have to go downstairs to the restaurant and get the feeling the restaurant is over massively busy as you keep watching the waiting staff walking ever so fast back and forth. Everyone always seeming to be in a rush to getting to the next place.
After being sat down, the place feelings like your having dinner with the table’s next to you. Each table is so close to each other it seems like a Chinese version of a upgraded McDonalds. I wouldn't mind if they didn’t have enough physical space though they own the whole building and an additional restaurant section on the mail ground floor. So I seriously don’t understand why they have ram every customer in like sheep. This serously must be a health and safety issues. Heaven for bid there was another fire.
Regarding the food, people I would say its Chinese but however you have to ask for the traditional Chinese menu. I suppose you need to then ask Chinese menu (which it seem they haven’t had the time to translate it English). So basically there’s a two state policy on the menu…. I would say a English Chinese menu for the English version of a Chinese. And a Chinese traditional menu for the Chinese people.
Why the two menus? I don’t know why!!!
After ordering the Chinese food from the Tradditional Chinese menu, I still don’t know nor understand the raving comments about how they can call this a authentic Chinese Restaurant and the great tastes. As there is nothing more special about the food from this Chinese next door. (i.e. your sweet and sour chicken is no better then the local take away shop) Don’t get me wrong the food isn’t bad, though there nothing I’ve tasted here which I need to write home to my mother about the wonderful time I had.
Overall the staff are nice people though you can’t help feeling that your in a student village area as most of the waiting staff seem to be in their student days and not true professional waiting staff.
So it really boils down to trying to understand why this place is meant to be so good? I really don’t understand why
Have I tasted anything special from this place? Nope
Perhaps Harry the own needs to get back to China, else the internet and do some research on cooking something that’s new and initiative as there really isn’t anything good. Would I come again? Yes though this place wouldn't be my first choice and nor would it be by my choice.

I have been a customer of the Yang Sing since their founder days in George Street. This place is magic if you like Chinese food. My wife and I used to take the kids on a Sunday. Our kids were "weened" on it and they are now customers themselves. Yang Sing have never been into business lunches and you get what you pay for...Quality! The service is excellant just like the food. Harry & Jerry & their staff know how to look after you. Personal tastes are just that and one man's meat........but the food is consistently good. If you are able to go midweek daytime try the Dim Sum menu, it is extensive, from fish cake with coriander, steamed whelks, curried squid, steamed ribs, the list is endless and you can just eat Dim Sum without ordering anything else! they dont' mind. Give it a try!

Been coming here since i was a little toddler and must say that the food gets better each time i go.
The starters range from dim sums (spicy meat & nut dumplings, pork cabbage wrap topped with a Chinese mushroom) which are my favourites, and a wide variety of soups. The mains are plentiful from seafood specials like the signature dish, Three Treasures Of The Ocean -lobster with salted shrimps, curry leaf and lemon grass in a curry sauce; saucy Tsingtao grouper fish; and sauteed hot and spicy scallops.
Washed down with a Chinese Tsingtao Beer.
From snacking to banqueting.
This is in my opinion is the cream of Cantonese in the UK.

Yang Sing
I tried the Yang Sing for the first time last night - It was a birthday meal so we all decided to go for the banquet. The food was great, probably one the best Chinese meals I have had in a long time and you can certainly appreciate the quality and preparation this place prides itself on.
Normally I have my blinkers with Chinese food and order the same things, but the banquet made me try different things like Ostrich and Sea Bass… Both were excellent and I certainly recommend them both. As for the Dim Sum starters, they were great.
The banquet was £30 per head and you get a lot of food nicely spread out over a good few hours, so the social aspect is also great if you’re with a good bunch of people.
Yang Sing is certainly not a cheap eat, the bill for 12 of us including drinks was £55 per head – a little shocking so the calculators came out… but everything seemed correct even with our beer goggles on.
Being the pain I am, I showed no emotion and haggled for a discount, but these sharp business people put me in my place… Eventually we settled on a free round of drinks for all of us (which was probably better than the discount)… Not sure if this is a great insider tip for you, but the Yang Sing have some space for negotiations if you’re the “type”.

I really can't fault the Yang Sing, my parents have taking there since i was a young kid (over 20 years now). In all the time going there i don't think I've had 1 bad meal. The food is outstanding. It can be a little pricey, but i guess you pay for what you get.
Its great even if you just pop in at a lunch time for some dim sums. The service is great and there curried tripe is an absolute winner. 5 stars by far the best Chinese in Manchester.
